Chapter 8

Trinity

I had been home for almost a week and still hadn’t gotten any collect calls from Lauren and nobody had heard from Tae; things were just getting crazy. I got Lauren’s info from Kenya. I mailed her a money order, sent her our address and me and Ice’s phone number and told her to make sure she called us as soon as possible.

Ice made a few calls and setup some appointments for us to go look at houses today, so I was up early and praying that we would find one that we liked. I was so ready to start fresh and be out of the city as far as where I lived. I think I’ve had my time with that life and that I’m ready for relaxation. I hadn’t sat down and told Kenya and Shadae yet that I was moving, but I figured I would have a talk with them tonight when I got home. I had already decided that I would rent the house for fifteen hundred dollars a month, so I was pretty confident that they could afford that. If not, then they would have to find somewhere else to go. I was over the whole trying to make sure everybody was ok ordeal; and it was time for me to focus on me, my relationship and my sister. I would make sure Malika was good because she was like my own daughter, but everybody else would come last from this point on.

The first house we went to look at was out at Owings Mills. It had three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a finished basement, a large backyard with a deck, and the master bedroom had a balcony. There was a two-car garage, an alarm system, and when you walked through the garage there was a room with a pool table, mini bar and projector on the wall. Ice claimed that as his man cave right off top. After viewing everything in this house, we were pretty confident that we didn’t want to look at any more houses. This was the one for us. We signed all the necessary papers and agreed to move in two weeks. One thing about Ice is that he has so many connections with so many different people all over—even across states—that it made our house buying process very simple.

That evening when I got home, I sat Kenya down and explained to her that I was moving and that if she wanted to stay then her and Shadae would have to pay the fifteen hundred rent plus utilities.

“Why do you want us to pay so much, Trini; especially when you don’t even owe anything on the house?”

“Because, right now this is my only source of income; since I’ve been with Ice, I haven’t been fuckin’ with the streets. I’ve just been focusing on school and Ice has been giving me something like an allowance that I been banking. But it’s time for to start making a way of living so I can invest in buying more houses.
